Rivers of Nilambur

Rivers are the lifeline of any city. Nilambur has blessed by the nature with a number of tiny and large rivers, most of them are originating from the western ghat mountains. Among these rivers Chaliyar is the largest and longest river flowing through Nilambur. The other main rivers are Kuthirapuzha (Vadapurampuzha), Kuruvanpuzha (Kurinjipuzha), etc.

The Conolly's Plot is on the banks of the river Chaliyar and this river was used heavily to carry the teak and timbers to the Kallai town, where most of the timber mills were located and was acted as the center of world's timber business.

Kuruvanpuzha (also known as Kurinjipuzha) is a tributary of the river Chaliyar, which originates from the dense forests of Nilambur and flows besides with the Conolly's plot and joins with the river Chaliyar near the plot. Hence the Conolly's plot is being surrounded from two sides by the river Chaliyar and the river Kuruvanpuzha. The best thing about Kuruvanpuzha is its fresh clean cold water, since it originates from the forest. The water is always clean and you can see the ground sands and stones through the water unlike the chaliyar river which is large and sometimes especially during the rainy season the water  is not so clear, due to a number of tiny tributaries it has.

Kuthirapuzha (also known as Vadapurampuzha) is another major river flows through the town of Nilambur and joins the Chaliyar. It joins at a place called Vadapuram, which is just 1 km from the Conolly's plot. So it joins to the gigantic Chaliyar just after the Kuruvanpuzha joins.
